Practical Advice

Ferry Travel Tips

Essential tips to make your Croatian island-hopping smooth and stress-free.

Book Car Tickets Early

Foot passengers rarely have issues, but car spaces sell out days in advance during July and August. Book online as early as possible for peak season.

Arrive 30-60 Minutes Early

Car ferries require check-in 30-60 minutes before departure. Foot passengers should arrive at least 15-20 minutes early. Queues form quickly at busy ports.

Summer vs. Off-Season

June to September offers the most departures and catamaran services. Off-season (October to May) has reduced schedules — always check before traveling.

Consider Going Car-Free

Many islands have good local bus or scooter rental services. Catamarans are faster and cheaper than car ferries — and you skip the vehicle queue.

Pack Light for Catamarans

Catamarans have limited luggage space. One suitcase and a carry-on per person is typical. Oversized luggage may be refused during busy periods.

Weather Cancellations

Strong southerly winds (jugo) or the bora can cancel services, especially catamarans. Check the forecast and have a backup plan during shoulder season.

Payment & Tickets

Most operators accept credit cards online and at counters. Jadrolinija and Krilo offer online booking. Some smaller lines are cash-only on board.

Useful Apps

Download the Jadrolinija app for schedules and e-tickets. Krilo and TP Line also have online booking. Google Maps shows some ferry connections for planning.
