Must-Try Korčula Dishes
Grk Wine
A rare white wine grape grown almost exclusively in the sandy soil of Lumbarda. Mineral, aromatic, and utterly unique — tasting it on the island where it is grown is a special experience.
Fresh Grilled Fish
The daily catch grilled simply with olive oil, garlic, and lemon is the quintessential Korčulan meal. Ask your waiter what came in that morning.
Oysters from Ston
The Pelješac Peninsula, just a short ferry ride away, is famous for its oysters farmed in the pristine waters of Mali Ston Bay. Many Korčula restaurants serve them fresh.
Lamb Peka
Lamb slow-cooked under a domed metal bell (peka) with potatoes, vegetables, and herbs. Order it in advance at a traditional konoba for the most authentic version.
Makaruni Pasta
Handmade pasta tubes unique to Korčula, typically served with a rich meat or seafood sauce. A genuine island speciality you will not find elsewhere.
Rožata
The Dalmatian version of creme caramel, made with rose liqueur and eggs. A silky, delicate dessert that is the perfect way to end a meal on the island.
Dining Tips for Korčula
Book ahead in summer. Korčula's best restaurants fill up fast from June to September, especially LD Restaurant and Adio Mare. Reserve at least a day or two in advance for dinner.
Order peka in advance. Lamb or octopus peka needs to be ordered several hours ahead (often when you book your table). It is worth the planning — the slow-cooked result is extraordinary.
Drink Grk wine. You cannot get Grk anywhere else in the world — it is grown exclusively in Lumbarda's sandy soil. Order it at least once during your visit.
Try the oysters. Oysters from Ston (on the nearby Pelješac Peninsula) are widely considered the best in the Adriatic. Most good restaurants in Korčula serve them fresh.
